Retreat with the ABI Group

Some of our team recently joined the Applied Bioinformatics (ABI) group from DKFZ for a retreat at the beautiful monastery in Schöntal.

We spent much of our time on shaping group strategies and future directions, while also taking a moment to reflect on how far the group has come already. Unsurprisingly, AI found its way into almost every discussion: we had in-depth exchanges about its opportunities and pitfalls, and ultimately worked out some best practices for our daily work.

Beyond the work sessions, connecting with everyone was just as valuable. Many of the current team members in Mainz originally came from the ABI group, others are still part of it, and all the time we’ve stayed closely connected through several joint projects. So the retreat was a great opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces and get to meet new colleagues, too. Moments like these are exactly what keep this collaborative exchange alive, and we’re looking forward to building on it further!

Many thanks to Charles, Benedikt, and Evgeniya for organizing the event and having us along!
